Why Rain Gutters Need to be Cleaned

This can lead to water cascading over your gutter and onto people and other objects, potentially causing damaging erosion to foundations and vegetation. Trapped debris retains moisture that can cause premature failure of gutter systems due to hastened erosion and the excess weight of retained water on gutter attachment hardware. To prevent these costly problems, your rain gutter system should be cleaned of debris and inspected for damage at least annually.

• Special applies only to the first 180 feet of uncovered gutters on the first level of single family detached homes. (This will cover most homes up to 2,000 square feet.)
• Scoop leaves, sticks and other loose debris from gutters
• Rinse remaining loose debris to downspouts
• Rinse loose debris from downspouts
• Place debris into your city-provided rubbish bin
• Inspect gutters and downspouts for damage and leaks

• Remove/replace covers (if present) to access gutters for clearing
• Clear clogged downspouts
